I think that Vera does feel comfortable because she was acting friendly and she wasn't like rejecting the things Bodega was telling her to do. A quote to demonstrate this is, " Lets go,go,go anywhere and do silly things and drink a little more and i want you to teach me how to smoke a join." This quote shows that she is comfortable because she is telling him to do all these crazy things with her. Also she is not being shy around him and that shows a lot about her. But i also think that she could be nervous because she hasn't seen him for 21 years and also she is married. So i don't know if she would give up her marriage to be with Bodega.

Question: Why did Vera give Chino her engagement ring?
Response: Vera gave Chino her engagement ring because she was never in love with the man who had given her the ring. She was always in love with Bodega until her family had forced her to marry a man she didn't love for his money. She then stayed in Miami with her husband until she came to New York and reunited with Bodega. On page 126, she gives Chino the ring. "'Yes, now I'm back,' she said softly, and then took off her engagement ring. A big beautiful rock that you need to wear shades to look at. A glare that blinded you and brought visions of sunsets and golden sands. 'Keep it,' she said handing it to me. 'I don't want it. I nevr did,' She said." This shows that the ring had no meaning to her since she had never loved the man that proposed to her. But, she gave Chino the ring while she was drunk with champagne. Maybe she was too drunk to realize what she was doing. I'm curious if this scenario would have turned out differently if she was sober.
