ReplyDeletewhy did bodega order sapo to kill alberto
sapo was sent by bodega to kill alberto because he knew something he was not supposed to know. this is because sapo said "they keep mentioni'n this guy named alberto. this shows that sapo knows something about alberto but does'nt want chino to know about because chino cares about the things that chino does
Chino cares about the things Chino does? Do you mean Sapo? Proofread for errors like this before you hit publish. You loose points for mistakes in punctuation and capitalization (nothing is properly capitalized). This response also lacks adequate context. Give enough background information about the story so that someone who hasn't read it would understand your post. My comments on your posts should never be longer than the post itself!!! 6.5/10
Deletehow does bodega feel about chino?
ReplyDeletebodega feels that chino is a pawn that he can control and make him do what ever he wants. this is because they say " good . that's one more professional in east harlem". this shows that chino is going under his control after he graduates.

DeleteWhy is Bodega so sad when talking about his latin brothers? I believe that Bodega went through some tough times as for example he says, "so much was promised to us when we left our island." This quote shows that during his voyage from his island to the U.S. and that he must feel like everything that wasn't promised to him and his companions didn't actually happen and that its him job to help him and his latin brothers who he wishes to help.
ReplyDeleteBe more specific in your response -- what exactly were the "tough times" he's gone through. You could bring in some of the information we are learning about in the documentary about the Young Lords in relation to this question, but you need to explain your reasoning more. 7/10
DeleteBodega told chino to meet him at the museum because Bodega is going to ask Chino a favor when Vera gets there" B'cause, Chino, im going to ask you for something when Vera gets here." Bodega he wants chino to know him better and since hes going to ask her to marry her he wants chino to know what hes going to want.
ReplyDeletewhy did chino meet bodega in the museum?
DeleteWhy does this have to be at the museum? A better way to state this question would be "Why does Bodega want to meet with Chino again" or "Why is Bodega revealing so much personal information to Chino? Again, you do not give enough context, or explanation in your posts. These paragraphs are too short and undeveloped. 6/10
DeleteQuestion: Why did Veronica (Blanca's aunt) marry a rich man in Cuba?
ReplyDeleteResponse: Veronica married a rich man from Cuba because she was forced to by her mother. On page 78, Bodega was telling Chino why Veronica married the man. "'She never wanted to marry him in the first place. It was her fucken mother who pushed her.'" This shows that Vera only married him because her mother just wanted the money. In the same chapter, Bodega explains what happened between him and Veronica since they have history. "'She said she loved me. She said that she didn't care if I didn't have any money. The problem was, she said, I didn't have a vision of how to get it.'"(Pg. 79). This shows that Vera actually loved Bodega and didn't want to marry the rich guy. But, sadly, she was obligated to marry a man and forced Bodega to go to New York to earn himself some money. Now that he has, he's content that Vera is coming to New York. On page 78, he says that "'Besides, I'm gonna marry her this time, and that means we're gonna be related.'" This shows that he's finally going to propose to the girl of his dreams.
Good context and use of two strong quotes. Explain a little more how those two quotes prove that both Vera and Bodega dream of marrying one another. 8.5/10
DeleteWhy is the Museum so important ? In round 9 Sapo and chino explains how Bodega does business with " El Museo del Barrio ". And it's also obvious to chino because he told Sapo that the museum was close. And Sapo responded " They'll open them for Bodega, don't worry. He like gives them crazy cash."
ReplyDeleteThis post is missing a lot of elements of a TIED paragraph. You do not have a topic sentence that answers the question. You do not give any context (background information about what is happening in the story), and the explanation of your quote is rushed. You should take more time to write and proofread. You lose points for typos (not capitalizing names/beginning of sentences etc.) and not writing a full TIED paragraph. 6/10

Why Sapo want to meet Blanca there?
In Bodega dream by Ernesto Quinonez Sapo want to meet Blanca there because that’s the place where he is going to marry her. He told chino to go today to that place because he going to ask him for a favor if we could say. In this quote “besides, I’m gonna marry her this time, and that means we’re gonna be related. And you’re good people.” This quote means that she wants him to be part of the ceremony of him and Blanca. And this also means he wants to take her serious because he loves her and also because every time chino wants a favor he always tells him if you do me this favor il do whatever you want.
Where does Sapo meet Blanca? They don't meet in the story because they don't like each other. You keep saying "there," without describing or naming the place you're referring to. The quote doesn't have anything to do with Sapo or Blanca. Please proofread future posts with me or a BETA in the writing center so you can avoid typos/mistakes in logic and writing like this. 5/10
Deletewhy does Bodega think that vera is going to leave her husband.
ReplyDelete" Ofcourse shell leave that pendejo." I think he says that because since he has a lot of money and vera loves him she will go with him. And the only reason she married the other guy was because her mom forced her.

ReplyDeleteWhy did Bodega want to talk to Chino?
ReplyDeleteBodega wanted to talk to to Chino to let him know what he is about and he also wanted to explain to him what was what he was planning on doing when Vera arrived to New York. One quote was when Chino asked, "You sure you did'nt at least like his money?". Chino did not know all the information that he learned causing him to feel suprised and also start to question Bodega if he is sure about what he is going to do and what he thinks about Vera.
This post is very vague and lacks context. Imagine your reader hasn't read the book and explain everything that is going on that relates to your question/answer. For example, you should explain "what [Bodega] is about" and "what he is planning on doing when Vera arrives." It is unclear how your quote relates to the question -- why Bodega wanted to talk to Chino. You should probably pick a quote from Bodega to answer this question. 6.5/10

Deletewhy did veronica marry a rich man from Cuba?
ReplyDeleteVeronica married a rich man from Cuba because she was forced to by her mother. One reason to prove this" she never wanted to marry her its was her fucken mother who pushed her". i think her mother only wanted her to marry that man for money. This is important because the man she truly loved was Bodega and since she couldint of been with him bodega got mad and tried to prove her wrong now she wants her back.

ReplyDeleteWho killed Alberto Salazar and why?
I think Bodega killed Alberto Salazar because when Chino went to meet Nazario and Bodega he had heard them talking about this person named Alberto Salazar who he had no idea about. The news said, "He had been a reporter for El Diario/La Pensa working on an investigation of a drug lord in East Harlem...". This quote proves that its Bodega because if Alberto was trying to investigate a drug lord, obviously Bodega is the one. Maybe Bodega killed Alberto because he doesn't want his plan of taking over the community to be crushed by Salazar
Good post! Strong answer, context, evidence and explanation. 9/10
DeleteAlberto Salazar a six feet two, 260 pound big man who body was found in East River was reported dead on channel 47. Alberto Salazer a reporter for "La Prensa" took the wrong decision by "investigating drug lords in East Harlem". Drug Lords like Bodega have tunnel vision on their plan to succeed and anything on his way or against it will get run over.Since The Smart Alberto Salazer was at the very peek of discovering Bodega, I think Bodega wanted to protect his dream and killed Salazer . This is why I think Bodega (drug lord) killed the reporter Alberto Salazer.
DeleteWhy did Veronica decide to marry the Cuban guy?
ReplyDeleteVeronica decided to marry the Cuban guy because he is wealthy and has lot of money. In Bodega dreams the author Ernesto Quinonez Willie Bodega was talking to chino about the reason how the Cuban guy relationship.'' See, chino, back then, politics was all i know. I tried to explain to veronica who this guy she was gonna marry was, the reason he was rich. I was telling her he was not a friend of the people right up to the night before the wedding(pg 79). According to my quote it shows that Veronica marry this Cuban guy because he is a wealthy man. Also this shows that Veronica and Willie Bodega were in a relationship when they were teenagers but they broke up a long time ago. So now Willie Bodega does not want Veronica to marry this Cuban guy because deep down inside Willie Bodega still loves Veronica.

ReplyDeleteWhy does bodega ask Chino to do a personal favor?
For one, bodega is a fairly wealthy man, he could get someone to do his work. In this case, he asked Chino to do him a personal favor. bodega asked Chino to look for a woman called Veronica. Veronica is married to a cuban man, who she was forced to marry by her parents. Of course, she did not want to marry this man. Who she really loved was Bodega. So what is the current relationship between Chino and Bodega? Well, in the book, Bodega tells Chino:"Chino, i thought you should know me. Besides, im gonna marry her this time." This quote tells me that Bodega wants to get on a higher, personal, level with Chino, so he put his trust in Chino by telling him this. The way Chino thinks of Bodega is about the same. Chino told blanca, "who ever is a friend of Chino, is a friend of mine" telling by Chino's words, he is also in good terms with Bodega. So, due to this evidence, i can say that Chino and Bodega have reached equal respect for eachother and that they can trust each other when it comes to personal things like what Bodega asked Chino to do.
Capitalization!!! There is more to this quote that you are missing -- about family and the fact that they will be related. 7.5/10

ReplyDeleteWhy didn't Willie Bodega marry Veronica?
ReplyDeleteIn the Bodega Dreams by Ernesto Quinonez, Bodega could not marry Vera because of her mother. Vera was forced by her mother to marry a Cuban guy. The reason why she wanted Vera to marry the Cuban guy was because he was rich. So she also want money from the guy. On page 78, Bodega said to Chino "She never wanted to marry him in the first place. It was her fucken mother who pushed her." According to this quote it shows that Vera's mother forced Vera to marry someone she did not love. She wanted to be with Bodega not the Cuban guy. Vera still loved Bodega, they had since even after they broke up.
Try and post an original question no one has asked yet. 7/10
DeleteWhy Blanca dislikes Sapo?
ReplyDeleteIn Bodega Dreams by Ernesto Quinoez, Veronican does not like Sapo. Blanca does not like Sapo because he is a bad person. Also he is doing illegal things, which why Blanca does not like him being friends with Chino. On page 14, Blanca says to Chino " You know he's bad news. Always has been. I don't want you around Enrique." This shows that Blanca doesnt like Sapo cause he causes trouble and she does not want Chino to get involved with what he's doing. On page 14, Blanca says to Chino "He's a drug dealer, Julio." According to this quote, the reason Blanca does not like Sapo is because he is a drug dealer. She knows that what he is doing is bad for Chino. So she thinks Sapo will influence him into selling drugs like Sapo. This shows Blanca is trying to keep him away from Sapo.
Proofread for errors in spelling/grammar. Can we really describe Sapo as a "bad person"? Does he have any good qualities? Also, try and post a question that relates to chapters 8 and 9. 7/10
DeleteWhy did Negra stab Victor?
ReplyDeleteIn the book "Bodega Dreams" by Ernesto Quinonez, Negra stab Victor. She stabbed him because she thinks he is cheating on her which he is. Negra found a movie ticket in his pocket shirt that made her think Victor was cheating. On page 57, Negra says to Chino " So i showed him the stub, Chino. I told him this was in his shirt pocket. Thass right, you didn't see this with Mike or Nando or with me because this is a movie you took another woman to see!" This shows Negra stabbed him because he was with another woman. But Victor keeps denying it to Negra because of what already happened. Chino wanted to take Victor to the hospital but he did not want to go. He did not want to go because he did not want Negra to go with them. On page 57, Victor tells Chino " nah, cuz Negra might wanna come too.... and... and... Negra can't come to Metro.... see..... my girl...... she ..... she works at Metropolitan.... emergency room..... an' this is her shift." According to this quote, Victor does not want to go to the hospital because he does not want to get caught. His other girlfriend works in Metropolitan close by his house and that why because he does not want to go there. Victor wants to go to another hospital without Negra knowing cause he might get caught. So thats why he couldnt make Negra take him to the hospital.

ReplyDeleteQuestion: Why characters are so focus on their ‘’reputation”?
In the book characters are describe in what they do or say so they focus more on who they are and how people see then and less on what they actually want to be. An example is thru the beginning until now in the story sapo is seen as this tough kid who everybody knows and respects because they knew he was bad news. “sapo was different, sapo was always sapo and no one messed with him because he had a reputation for biting”. This shows that people were afraid of sapo because they knew that he was a fighter from his reputation to getting into a lot of fight he was known “for Bitting”. In the story reputation has a big role reputation everyone has in the book because that how people see them for their reputation.
Good analysis of the motif of reputation. Check for errors in spelling/grammar. Almost nothing is capitalized in this post! You could have improved this post by providing more examples of where reputation comes up (Bodega?) than just with Sapo and biting in the beginning. 8/10

ReplyDeleteQuestion:How does Bodega Dreams affect other people?
In the book Bodega is seen to have a dream, to help others and it will benefit him in return, bodega seems to want to change the neighborhood he is tired of people saying that the barrio is “the slums” but he wants to change that by helping others. An example is when chino and bodega were talking and bodega told him his plan “I placed fourteen families in a building, cheap rent too...But it means fourteen families riot for bodega, who would take a bullet for bodega”. this shows that his dream to fix his neighborhood does affect a lot of people, like people who lives in his building and who believes and gets things from him
But how is he using them for his own gain? To further develop your ideas (which are great!) take your explanation a bit further by explaining both sides of this. 8/10

ReplyDeleteQuestion:why does negra stabs victor?
In the book "Bodega Dreams" by Ernesto Quinonez , negra stab victor . she stab him because she sees that vic have a movies theater ticket and she thinks he took another girl to the movies. According to this quote "thass right, you didnt see this with mike or nando or with me because this is a movie you took another women to see!" shows that negra finds out vic took another women to the movies theaters . This is a problem for vic and also negra because vic could loose a lt of blood and die and negra could get arrested with attempting to kill vic.

Deletesymbolism of bodega dreams?
ReplyDeleteI think hope is the biggest symbolism in bodega dreams because Bodega did not reach his dream, but he did show people what they should strive for. Chino only hold bodegas end of the bargain to get money to move in to a much better apartment in spanish harlem to support blanca and the baby. I think the buildings bodega build is an example of hope for the barrio
Good job trying to talk about symbolism. I think the buildings can be analyzed as a symbol. Provide a quote to make your reponse stronger.
DeleteWhy is chino very concerned about salazars death?
ReplyDeleteWhen chino heard about salazars death in the news he was very worried. When he came back home one night he turned on the tv and saw that someone had died. The body was identified as Alberto Salazar. According to the story it says "Alberto Salazar was the same guy I had heard bodega and Nazario talk about that night at the Taino towers." This shows that chino is worried because he knows that Alberto is an important person to bodega and Nazario because he has heard them talk about Alberto. This is why chino is worried about salazars death.
Why is negra known in the neighborhood?
ReplyDeleteNegra is known throughout the neighbor hood for knowing lots of information on people and events. She is Blanca's sister however is not as nice or respectful as Blanca. She is the opposite of her. In the story it says "negras reputation for information was made at the time for popcorns murder." This shows that negra is known for this in the neighbor hood because she knew about a murder case that know one but her knew the truth about. This is why negra is known around the neighbor hood.
Both posts could use further development/explanation of context and quotes. Also, make sure you are posting an original question that has not been asked/answered multiple times already on the blog. 7/10
DeleteIs Bodega really religious? Throughout the the chapters we notice some clues that Bodega is actually religious. The question is why and what does it do for him. In a chapter we actually read a scene where Chino goes with Sapo to a Botanica for some religious purpose. " Diganle a Willie to wake up tomorrow at sunrise. Make sure that his windows have a clear view of the sun....i have seen the woman he is after." This quote shows that Bodega loves Vera so much that he does a religious ceremony. This shows that Bodega is really religious as it gives him hope. The hope that he and Vera can be together again and that it would all work out fine. As said before in the book Bodega and Vera had a falling out as she married another man although she loved Bodega but was forced to. After all those troubles Bodega sought out something to cling on, something that could keep the dream of him and Vera finally being together. Having a type of religion helped him keep that dream and helped answer the question. is Bodega really religious?. The answer of course is yes.
ReplyDeleteChango is the god that Bodega performs the ritual to -- not Vera's actual father. 8/10
DeleteDoes Bodega and Chango have some heat between them? In the chapters we learn about the small history between Vera and Bodega. Although Bodega loved Vera and vice versa she could not marry Bodega as her father Chango did not allow it. Now why is this why could Vera not be with Bodega. For example the lady in the botanica where Sapo and Chino went she says and i quote, " Willie Bodega would like you to make an offering to Chango on his behalf." This quote proves that Bodega wants to make amends after something went wrong with him and Chango. Of course the reason why Bodega wants to do this is so he can be with his love Vera but what exactly happen for it to go all wrong. Any way it can still be proven that there is in fact some trouble between Chango and Bodega.
ReplyDeleteChango is not Vera's father... Dona Romanito used a metaphor to describe Vera as "the daughter of Chano," but this was just to explain that she would cause a lot of trouble. Post is confused. 6/10
DeleteWhy was Salazar shown as such a danger toward Nazario and Bodega?
ReplyDeleteSalazar was a danger to them both because he was acting like a drug dealer undercover to expose Bodega of his drug lord ways. On page 82, it reads about Chino listening to the Spanish news when he went home after meeting Nazario and Bodega. "He [Alberto Salazar] had been a reporter for El Dario/La Prensa working on an investigation of a drug lord in East Harlem." This shows that Salazar was working for Bodega in order to make a report about Bodega and his drug dealing network. To continue, the news resumes to speak about Salazar being assassinated. "In addition to the gunshot wound, Salazar had suffered a serious bite to the shoulder." After Chino heard this, he said "that's when I knew who had killed him." This all shows that Nazario was correct about being suspicious over Salazar because he was attempting to get Bodega in trouble to doing something illegal. But, I find it curious that Chino knows who had killed Salazar. I'm not sure if I am correct, but I believe Sapo had killed Salazar. I think this because Chino always talks about the most wild things Sapo has done. Furthermore, Chino doesn't really talk about more people a lot other than Bodega, Blanca and Sapo and I don't believe Blanca was in this nor Bodega.

DeleteDoes vera still love bodega?
ReplyDeleteBodega doesnt realize that vera feelings for him could have changed because she loves her husband and she not going to love somebody that is not in her life. In round 9 bodega said ''she said she loved me,she said that she didnt care if i didnt have money. This shows that when Vera and bodega seperated
Bodega never tried to get back in her life. But now that she has a husband Bodega wants to be involve in her life again. This shows that Vera has a reason to why she wants nothing to do with bodega because he was not loyal and she wants somebody that`s committed to her.
Good original question and response. 8/10
DeleteWho killed Salazar?
ReplyDeleteThe police said a man find in the Harlem river and said the man name salazar there said he was maybe killed by a drug lord. Salazar was in ainvestigation by the police.in east spanish. A quote that support my text is "The report said Salazar's body was found in the East river. he had been reported for El Diaria/La Prensa working on an investiogation of a drug lord in East Harlem Salazar had been a big men, six feet two, 260 pound," This quote explains that salazar had been getting stalked by the police and maybe had been killed because he had to much heat on him and he can cause problems to bodega from the police.

ReplyDelete1. How does chino and sapo feel about each other?
Chino and Sapo care about each other. Sapo and chino may have had some fights because sapo wants chino to be part of willie bodegas project, but chino doesn't want to because of Blanca and their baby. But chino and sapo still keep in touch. it says " the following day sapo gave me a call,... like you my main mellow man can you do me a solid...remember the day the entire CIA crew wanted to jump yo'ass". this means that chino and sapo still do favors for each other they keep in touch and tell each other things and help each other out. They haven't forgotten about each other, they are still brothers.
2. Who killed Salazar?
I think bodega killed Salazar it says "the reporter said salazars body was found in the east river. he had been a reporter for a diario/la prensa working on an investigation of a young lord". Bodega seems like a young lord, he wants where he lives to get noticed to get equal to get some money, like the young lords. he is also religious like the young lords and how they used the churches for their protests and their own needs.
Your posts are missing important information about the plot. They did fight, but then Chino agreed to help Bodega out. Also, you need to properly punctuate and capitalize each sentence. Both of these posts do not give enough, context, explanation or show effort in terms of proofreading before you posted the final product. 6/10
DeleteBD BOOK 2 ROUND 1
ReplyDeleteWhy is Blanca so suspicious about Alberto Salazars death?
Blanca is suspicious about Alberto Salazars death because she feels like she knows who did it. Blanca thinks Sapo murdered Salazar, Because the man had a huge bite mark on his shoulder and It also happened in East harlem which is where he lives. The reason she has a strong feeling that it was Sapo is because Blanca has witnessed Sapo fight and he likes to bite people when he fights. So shes thinking that he was part of this Murder. "Tell me that you know for a fact that Sapo is not involved in that reporters death. A piece of the mans shoulder was missing".
Blanca asks Chino if he knows if Sapo had anything to do with it because Chino and Sapo are close friends. Chino knows it was Sapo but he would'nt want to tell Blanca because Blanca could "snitch" on Sapo and have him locked up.

ReplyDeleteQuestion: how does chino react when he see's nazarrio?
Response: Chino doesn't seem to like him because he's calm with situations and doesn't react to them in a certain way he was expecting him to do so. Nazarrio is the type of character that does not like drama at all, but tries to solve them without getting in any trouble. Chino feels as if nazarrio is getting in the way if things.
Question: How does chino know who killed alberto Salazar?
Response: Chino knew who killed him because he over heard bodega and the other guys talking about how alberto was killed. He found out that one of the guys had killed him , they had thought that chino wouldn't find out.
Explain what you mean when you say "a certain way he is expecting him to do so." This is vague language that doesn't help develop your point. Both of these responses need quotes. 5/10
